About FCS:
Freeport Community Services (FCS) is a dynamic non-profit organization dedicated to enriching lives, connecting neighbors, and assisting those in need in Freeport and Pownal. Our programs include emergency services, a food pantry, fuel assistance, summer camp scholarships, summer lunch programs, holiday meals, and a holiday helpline.

With a committed staff of 16 and over 200 community volunteers, FCS is a hub of activity, where every day brings an opportunity to make a meaningful impact. Our team plays a central role in fulfilling FCS’s mission, ensuring that we meet the diverse needs of our community.

About the Position:
The Director of Programs is a vital role at FCS, responsible for overseeing essential, needs-based resources and services for the community. As a member of the management team, the Director supervises the Volunteer Coordinator and Food Programs Coordinator. The ideal candidate will possess a keen understanding of community needs, program operations, and have a forward-thinking approach to service delivery. They will thrive in a fast-paced environment, engage regularly with the community, and maintain a compassionate, organized, and collaborative approach.

Hours and Location:
This is a full-time, exempt position (37.5 hours/week) located at Freeport Community Services. The standard workweek is Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, with occasional evening and weekend hours as needed.

Qualifications:
Essential qualifications include:

  • Experience working with diverse populations of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Supervisory experience, balancing accountability with compassion.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive attitude.
  • Ability to organize operations for efficiency and positive outcomes.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Flexibility to manage multiple tasks with varying deadlines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Staff and Volunteer Management:

  • Provide leadership and support to staff, volunteers, and interns.
  • Assist with volunteer supervision and training.
  • Offer direction and feedback to staff, ensuring job competencies are met.

Program Planning and Management:

  • Monitor and improve the day-to-day delivery of FCS programs.
  • Oversee the planning, execution, and evaluation of programs and special projects.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to develop funding proposals.

Program Organization and Direction:

  • Ensure program activities align with FCS policies and best practices.
  • Maintain accurate program records and utilization data.

Program Development and Delivery:

  • Utilize spreadsheets and databases to manage records.
  • Communicate clearly and timely with colleagues, clients, and partners.
  • Supervise, evaluate, and implement program activities.
  • Identify opportunities for new programs that address root causes of poverty and explore collaborations with other local organizations.

Financial, Reporting, and Risk Management:

  • Maintain accurate program information and support budget development.
  • Review monthly budget reports and approve program expenditures.
  • Assist with reporting on programs as required by funding agreements.
  • Analyze data to monitor program effectiveness.

Committee Work and Community Engagement:

  • Support various committees, including the Program Committee and Age Friendly Freeport Pownal.
  • Collaborate with local schools, businesses, and civic organizations to enhance FCS programs.

Continuous Quality Improvement:

  • Analyze program trends, identify improvement areas, and recommend solutions.
  • Implement a program evaluation framework to ensure ongoing program effectiveness and improvement.
