Since its founding in 1974, Freeport Community Services has sought to understand residents’ challenges and designed programs, services and initiatives to address these challenges. In the last few years, as a number of diverse groups from Freeport and Pownal began to collaborate on how to make our community more age-friendly, it was only natural for FCS to take a leadership role, bringing its resources, reputation and influence to bear to bring people together and “get the ball rolling.” Initial exploration focused on how to provide a comfortable, safe and supportive community for those who want to age in place, at home in their communities, with dignity, safety and independence.
Today, Age-Friendly Freeport & Pownal is a volunteer-driven, formal network of community collaborators, individual residents and groups as well as community organizations interested in making sure our community works for all residents (all ages, disabled, etc.) now and long term. Our goal is to make Freeport and Pownal great places to live, work and play for all residents.
AFFP’s mission is to encourage and promote the growth of Freeport and Pownal to be livable communities for people of all ages. Age-Friendly Freeport & Pownal’s vision is people of all ages will contribute and thrive in our communities throughout their lifetime. Respect, compassion, inclusion and community are AFFP’s guiding values. In day to day operating, AFFP seeks to remove boundaries and transform lives with respect and compassion for all. It strives to be a voice for the health and well-being of citizens of all ages and optimize opportunities for active aging, health, engagement and safety. AFFP is an advocate for change focused on connecting people to the community.
