12 Jul Introducing Our New Director of Programs
The director of programs position at FCS plays a particularly important role within the organization, managing a wide array of essential services and interacting with staff, clients and volunteers. Which is why FCS is so happy to have Amy Liechty join us in the role, as she brings valuable experience and tons of positive energy to the organization.
“I feel like I’ve landed where I belong,” Amy said, citing the strong sense of community, welcoming atmosphere and innovative approach to services at FCS. Amy has worked in social services for about 20 years, including Preble Street, Bath Housing and Big Brothers Big Sisters.
In previous collaborations with FCS, Amy admired the organization’s low-barrier, robust services, which she said sets it apart from other social service organizations.
“Oftentimes there are roadblocks, and they are systemic,” Amy said. “For example, someone may need food, but food pantries are only open certain hours. Here, yesterday, there was a family of four who came after hours, and we were able to provide them with four emergency bags of food.”
Other key examples of the different approach to services at FCS are not having income requirements or deadlines for signing up for programs.
Take the new Summer Snacks program – it started on June 28 with 120 kids signed up, and by July 12 that number was up to 160.
“That’s another good example of removing a barrier,” Amy said. “People can still sign up. There’s not a cut-off.”
AFFP Coordinator Expands Role to Cover General Assistance
Another positive development on the staffing front at FCS is Marie O’Donnell expanding her role as Age-Friendly Freeport & Pownal Coordinator to also cover the General Assistance Coordinator position. Both jobs are part-time, so the opening was a good fit. Marie is learning the position and looks forward to working with clients in her new role.
