Freeport Community Services’ fall/winter fundraising campaign is focusing on the need for food many in Freeport and Pownal are experiencing. We are asking for funds to help bolster work to tackle this issue.

FCS is seeing hunger as an issue that is particularly prevalent for many of our neighbors today. FCS was able to pivot existing programs earlier this year to better address hunger within our community, because of the availability of unrestricted support provided by community members through fundraising campaigns such as this.

This summer, FCS created its own summer food program for RSU5 students. We had an overwhelming response, with 179 children and 70 families participating. The success of Summer Snacks continues today as it bolstered our school-year BackPack Program numbers to more than double what we had seen in years past, with over 120 children participating each week.

At the same time, patrons visit our Food Pantry in larger numbers than ever. It is impossible to escape the rising cost of food at the grocery store, and for many, our Food Pantry provides immense relief. Your support maintains a reliable resource for 180 households or 335 people each month.

• $205 provides one child with 216 weekend meals for the entire school year.
• $35 provides one child with supplemental food during the summer months.
• $550 provides one person with 1,095 meals each year.
