Food Programs

Food Pickup

  • Tuesday 7-9 am: The food pickup driver arrives at Hannaford at 7:15 with arrival at FCS at around 8 AM.
  • Must be able to lift 30 lbs and drive our truck (or yours).
  • Pick up at Hannaford’s and Royal River Natural Foods; deliver to FCS loading dock.

Pantry Checker

  • Shifts available Mondays 11-1
  • Sit outside pantry and check in shoppers.
  • Off-Hours Assistant for Set up / Clean-up
  • Shifts available Mondays 10-11 am & 3-4 pm, Tuesdays 8:30-9:30 & 11:30-12:30, and Wednesdays 10-11 & 1:30-2:30
  • Help us keep the Food Pantry neat, tidy and clean after our pantry distribution
  • Break down boxes, sort donated foods, clean surfaces, help with storage and organization of foods
  • Shifts is Wednesdays 1:15 – 2:30 pm
  • This can be a job for 2 members of the same household
  • Ideally volunteer(s) will commit to a regular weekly or monthly shift
  • Ability to lift and carry 30 pounds is required of at least 1 volunteer

Pantry Reorganization Project

  • Looking to do some lifting outside the gym? Want to get in a workout that gives back to the community? Help us return to our ‘pre-pandemic’ shape in the pantry!
  • Must be able to lift 40 lbs
  • Timing flexible, check in with Dan for more details!

Cardboard Transporter

  • Shifts available: Anytime after 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday and before 4 p.m. on Saturday, whenever works for your schedule/the transfer station’s hours
  • Retrieve all the cardboard from the white shed in the parking lot of the Food Pantry loading dock and bring to the transfer station
  • The transfer station (located at 100 Hedgehog Mountain Rd in Freeport) is open from 8-4 on Wednesday through Friday, and 9-4 on Saturday
  • Must have own transportation (big enough to haul away cardboard) and be able to lift up to 15 lbs

Thrift Store

Cashier Assistant

  • Shifts available: Tuesdays 12-2:30 & 2:30 – 5pm, Thursdays 12-2:30, and Saturdays 10-12:30
  • Help in the store with customer service including ringing up sales.

Sorting Room Assistant

  • Shifts available Tuesdays 9-11 & 1-3, Thursdays 1-3
  • Help sort and hang clothing and hard goods

FCS Greeter

  • Available shifts of 2 hours during our regular business hours Monday-Friday 10-5 & Saturday 10-3. Inquire for specific times.
  • Be the first smiling face our visitors see when they enter the center.
  • Sit or stand at the front desk and be available to answer questions.
  • If you want more to do, we have occasional office or thrift shop projects.
  • Perfect position for a friendly extrovert.
  • Does not require lifting or strenuous movement.

FCS Ambassador at Makers on Main

  • Saturday, August 7th and Saturday, Sept 4
  • Help make FCS’ Makers on Maine a successful event!
  • Let folks know about our Thrift Shop
  • Help raise funds and awareness about the Carol Southall Camp Scholarship program, by selling $5 S’mores kits.
  • Sign up for shifts from 9-4pm by clicking on SignUp Genius or contact Dan Kipp
