02 Nov Fundraising for Annual Thanksgiving Community Meal
For nearly 20 years, Freeport has been home to a Free Community Meal for Thanksgiving. Please help us by donating to this year’s dinner!
Run by volunteers and funded by donation, our chefs put on a wonderful meal for our community. We rely on you to make this beloved tradition a success. We are raising $2000 to cover the cost of the meal. We will still be individually serving the meal, allowing folks to choose what they wish to fill their holiday plate. However, the meal itself will then be packed to go. Please also help us to send a little something special home to each household to make the holiday season brighter.
A tremendous amount of work goes into creating the dinner each year. When asked why he continues to donate his time to this event, organizer Jonas Werner is clear. “I do it for the people in the community,” he says. “There are people that, not by any choice of their own spend a lot of time alone. They spend their birthdays alone and holidays alone. This is a time when I can help bring people together.” Jonas believes that it doesn’t matter where people come from or what their religion is or what their beliefs are, everyone deserves to have a place to go to celebrate with others on this holiday.
